If you believe that you need a storage unit to house your items until you can move into a new home, there are some tips to help you in your storing needs. For storing clothing, use wardrobe boxes. This will eliminate a lot of wrinkling. Books and valuables should be stored in the best containers. Do not fill your containers too full because of the weight of books. Pack your books flat and fill in any vacant spots to eliminate movement. For furniture items, cover everything. Disassemble if at all possible. Tables with their legs intact should be top down on the floor with legs toward the ceiling. Stack the chairs seat to seat with cloth or paper separating them. Use blankets or a pallet between furniture and the floor of the unit. Don’t stack or lean furniture against outside walls. Large appliances and equipment should be stored with their doors slightly ajar. This will prevent mildew and moisture damage by keeping allowing air to circulate. The storage inside the appliances makes perfect little nooks for smaller items to hang out. Wrap any breakables like plates individually before placing them in a china carton. Put fill paper on the bottom, top, and empty spaces in the carton.
