The price of a home is very important to you, but acquiring a loan is equally as important. Your credit report will have a major impact on your ability to receive a loan. You should review your credit report and check it for any errors. The three major credit bureaus are Equifax Credit Information Services, Experian National Consumer Assistance Center, and Trans Union National Disclosure Center. These places, among others, can be called, written, or emailed to obtain a report. The report will list when accounts were opened, when loans were taken out, credit limits, loan amounts, current amount balances, and monthly payment amounts. Late payments, missed payments, and accounts turned over to collection agents will also be listed. Information from public records will also be included. This includes foreclosures, tax liens, monetary court judgments, and bankruptcies. You are responsible for making sure this information is up-to-date and is error free. If problems arise, you should contact the credit bureau through certified mail. They will have to reply to you within 35 days. You will also receive a new copy of your credit report to verify that you have a correct credit report. Finding and correcting these issues will eliminate many problems later on.
