Approximately one-third of the greenhouse gas emissions are from things like natural gas or fuel oil burned in houses to create hot water and heat. Power plants electricity produces power for computers, lights, appliances, air conditioners, and other home equipment. The less energy a household consumes, the fewer emissions will result. As a consequence of the ever growing greenhouse gasses, architects are doing their part to eliminate the global warming problem in what is being called the ‘2030 Challenge.’ The challenge was adopted by the American Institute of Architects in 2006. The goal is to reduce the fossil fuel consumption by fifty percent in all new buildings, including houses.
