A Hot News Item from the Jacksonville Business Journal today ranked Jacksonville Florida real estate as the 47th most affordable place to buy real estate in metropolitan areas in the country. When determining the affordability rank they looked at the percentage of the household’s income that was used to pay for housing payment the median mortgage payment per month, the median property-tax payment per month, the median housing payment per month and the median household income per month.

Augusta-Richmond County Georgia/South Carolina ranked number 1 with a 17.4% total housing payment as a percentage of household income. Jacksonville Fl ranked 47th with a 24.9% total housing payment as a percentage of household income. The least affordable city was San Francisco-Oakland California with a 70% total housing payment as a percentage of household income.

It was interesting to compare how the median house payments compared from the least affordable to the most affordable. The median housing payment per month in Augusta-Richmond County Georgia/South Carolina was $613.00; Jacksonville Florida homes was $983.00 and  San Francisco-Oakland was $3,815.
