The Beaches of Northeast Florida are fabulous places for fun in the sun. Ponte Vedra Beach, Palm Valley, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island and Mayport make up the First Coast beaches. Rich in history stretching back to 1562, these beaches are vital to the area. The St. Johns River played a significant role in their development. The Timucuans were the earliest settlers in this area before 2,000 B.C. The river provided food for them and helped pave the way for early explorers. A village called Hazard was established at the north end of the Beaches. A lighthouse was built at the river’s entrance and was named Hazard Light in 1859. A light house was built in 1940 in Mayport, which ignited the real estate market at the Beaches. These areas are rich in history with something for everyone. The First Coast with its numerous beaches and wonderful real estate also provides a rich history of Florida and America.
