Do you own Jacksonville homes? Do you have school age children? If you answered 'yes' to the second question, you might want to plan for some shopping this weekend if you aren't already doing so. It's that time of year again when the kids are gearing up to head back to school and parents have to spend a pretty penny on new materials and for some a whole new wardrobe.
Thankfully the state of Florida is making things easier for those who live in Jacksonville homes and beyond. Starting today, you'll be able to purchase shoes and clothing that's $75 or less and not pay a single cent on tax. The same applies for school supplies that are less than fifteen dollars. These amounts are actually higher than last year.
There are certain caveats. Items like handbags and briefcases are not eligible for tax exemption and so are locations like theme parks, airports, and public lodging establishments. The tax free perks continue until Sunday so even if you aren't buying back to school items, it might be worth braving the crowds in case you were interested in buying some new outfits for whatever occasion.
